I’ve been a licensed massage therapist since 1995 and upon graduation, began practicing with one of my teachers in a very successful local physical therapy clinic. While in school, I trained in Pilates so I was able to treat people who were interested in maintaining their strength and functional movement, but my eyes were always on movement patterns. My goal was to figure out ways to increase their comfort level by recognizing what activities and patterns were making them feel uncomfortable.
For years, I had seen ads for Erik Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, but not until I met Marisel Clark and Michelle Quigley and witnessed their enthusiasm for the work did I decide it was time for me to ante up and enroll in the Master Myoskeletal Therapist (MMT) program. I like that the MMT training includes the study of spinal biomechanics and how joint dysfunction can lead to protective muscle spasm, a subject that was kind of kind off-limits in my basic massage training.
I was lucky enough to start taking live MAT classes in early 2021 (masks and all). I took two workshops with Nate Fay in Connecticut and was quite overwhelmed with the amount of material presented over those two weekend seminars. So I decided to purchase Erik Dalton’s Foundational Bundle to help me retain and integrate some of this wonderful new information into my practice. I use Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques and Pilates as a powerful combination in my practice. I’ve noticed immediate, identifiable differences such as how people stand more upright and the ease in how my clients feel in their body after just one session.
In November 2021, I went to Costa Rica after hearing so many wonderful things about it. And this trip did NOT disappoint. Meeting so many like-minded therapists/ anatomy geeks, and all the kind people who make up the Dalton gang was a delight. World-class education and therapists in a gorgeous resort, studying with the man himself…. it was a phenomenal week! My favorite thing about Erik Dalton as a teacher is his laid-back, humorous approach to what can be heady information. And when he’s not presenting, he’s out working the room showing participants how to correctly perform the techniques. He is a teacher through and through. You absolutely must attend at least one of Erik’s “Pain Relief in Paradise” Costa Rica workshop retreats, it’s an amazing experience….and a tax write-off! A win-win!
The Master Myoskeletal Therapist (MMT) certification is one of the most cost-effective, and highly regarded continuing education programs out there. Just do it!!
