After many rewarding years in Hospital Administration, I took a leap and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2013. While I started without a clear specialty in mind, within a couple of years I discovered my natural talent for clinical and diagnostic bodywork. Over the next 11 years, I gained deep expertise in pain management, working in both Chiropractic and Hospital clinics – sometimes as part of multidisciplinary teams and other times as a solo practitioner.
My MAT journey began just three years ago at a major teaching hospital/university pain center. As one of five LMTs, each with different specialties, I kept hearing my colleagues rave about Erik Dalton’s work. Their enthusiasm sparked my curiosity, leading me to take my first MAT Workshop with Kathleen in Texas. The experience was so transformative that I immediately committed to becoming an MMT.
What makes MAT special to me is its comprehensive approach to chronic conditions. The techniques get to the root cause more efficiently than anything else I’ve used in my career. My clients – who are small folks– often tell me they prefer this manual work over traditional deep tissue massage, noting how it better serves their bodies. They appreciate that I focus on detailed assessments and targeted results rather than just general massage.
For anyone interested in MAT, I recommend starting with a MAT workshop before diving into the MMT Certification. Experience firsthand what it’s like to learn from Master Educators in the field. In my experience, investing in the MMT certification has been transformative – it has elevates your practice and truly sets you apart as a therapist.
