I attended my first OKC MAT Workshop in 2019, not as a massage therapist but as a fitness professional. I learned about MAT through Sue Hitzmann, creator of the MELT Method, who was a guest educator at the 2019 Workshop. As a longtime Pilates and MELT Method instructor, I recognized that even with these wonderful modalities and my various other fitness certifications there were many times that I knew my clients would benefit more from hands-on intervention. I was intrigued by the way MAT skillfully positioned the body—both the therapist’s and the client’s—to deliver real results for pain relief, posture, and ideal function. I knew these techniques were the missing link for caring for my clients. MAT lit a fire within me to pursue my massage education. I bought the Foundations Bundle at the 2019 Workshop and started studying. Though the pandemic put going to massage school on hold, I was able to immerse myself in MAT with the online program and Erik’s wonderful textbooks, which I relished reading. By the 2021 Workshop, I had finished Foundations and purchased the Advanced bundle to help complete my MMT certification. At the 2022 Workshop I received my MMT certification, while I was still attending massage school. I graduated massage school in November 2022, and received my LMT licensure in January 2023. Knowing MAT gave me a huge advantage in massage school, with its emphasis on correct biomechanics and anatomy. I recommended MAT to all my classmates, to enhance their skills and further their careers. I absolutely LOVE attending the annual OKC Workshop! I’m looking forward to my fourth in 2023. Going through the MMT program changed my life and my clients’ lives for the better, and I cherish being a part of this amazing community of talented and caring individuals, the Dalton Gang. A special thank you to Education Director Kim Miller for her support from day one of my journey and to all my amazing workshop partners for their encouragement and for being such an inspiration to me.
