Achieving this certification, one of the highest standards for a massage professional, is no small feat. It takes a burning desire to get results for your clients and a great deal of commitment. You can find out more about him below. He can help you resolve pain problems that many other allied health professions struggle with, including back pain, injuries, and headaches. In high school, I was all about football and track, relying on massage, physiotherapy, and chiropractic care to keep me at my best. I knew I wanted to help young athletes someday, but traditional academics weren’t my strong suit. After a few years in construction and the restaurant industry, I finally took the leap and enrolled in a massage therapy program in 2016.
Once I got into therapeutic techniques, I felt hopeful about making a real difference. But my first job in a chronic pain office was eye-opening. I saw many clients come back with the same complaints, realizing the traditional methods didn’t address the root causes. I was frustrated and ready for a change.
A colleague suggested I check out Erik Dalton’s courses, and after diving into his YouTube content, I knew I’d found what I was missing. I started with the Pain, Posture, Performance course and continued with nearly all of Erik’s home study options, even attending a live virtual seminar in 2021.
MAT has empowered me with a robust therapeutic framework. Now, when clients come in with pain, I don’t just look for tight muscles. MAT’s approach has given me the confidence to perform thorough assessments and understand what needs addressing, including strengthening exercises. One of the most valuable lessons has been treating scoliosis. Many clients told by other healthcare providers that surgery or medication were their only options have found relief with me. While I can’t promise a perfect spine, I help them move better and feel hopeful about managing their condition without invasive treatments.
I’m much happier in my career now! MAT has introduced enough variety to keep me engaged and equipped to tackle complex issues. Erik’s teachings have inspired me to explore further, and I’m currently in a four-year osteopathic manual therapy program in Canada. Without Erik’s influence, I might have left the field out of frustration.
If you’re considering MAT, go for it! This framework is invaluable. There are many ways to address issues, but MAT lays out clear rationale and next steps like no other program. It’s the foundation of my practice, and everything I learn now fits within the Myoskeletal Alignment system.
