I have been licensed and board-certified in private practice for thirty-four years and taught massage in a college program for twelve years. I have extensive training in both Eastern and Western massage modalities. I am a certified health/fitness instructor, clinical orthopedic manual therapist, sports massage therapist, hypnotherapist, Kinesio taping practitioner, medical and cancer massage therapist, and chronic pain management therapist.
I met Erik Dalton in 1993 at an AMTA workshop he was teaching in Massachusetts. I had just graduated from massage school and was impressed with his attention to detail in describing bodily distortions and how to assess posture. I followed Erik’s work for many years and studied with him again in 2003 at a workshop in Upstate New York. I purchased his MAT Foundational course, completed the course material, and began incorporating it into my treatments. I achieved a lot of positive results, and nobody else was doing what I was doing. As I progressed in my career and continued studying manual therapy and movement, I read Erik’s articles in massage journals and newsletters. Until recently, I never had the time to complete the full MMT Certification. Erik was a great teacher who had a way of making learning fun and interesting. I have used his techniques to treat chronic injuries and work with various medical conditions in rehabilitation medicine. The comments and smiles I receive from patients are a welcome reward for helping them feel better.
Erik’s techniques are easily adaptable when working with athletes, young adults, senior populations, and can be performed with clothes on. They also engage patients in the process of understanding movement patterns that can cause pain and physical discomfort.
Word of mouth is the best form of advertisement. When you help people get out of pain and the results are positive, it tends to spread among individuals looking for an alternative to conventional methods. My practice has benefited from referrals from MDs, PTs, and other health professionals. I have used MAT as a platform to educate and demonstrate how movement can inhibit or enhance an individual’s physical well-being. I have had a lot of success treating women with pelvic floor and low back issues, as well as young adult athletes recovering from injury.
Taking this training and pursuing this work will change how you approach treating chronic conditions and help you better understand movement patterns. It will broaden your knowledge of anatomy and expand your ability to assess and recognize muscular distortions. It is well worth the time and effort you put into it.
