Achieving this certification, one of the highest standards for a massage professional, is no small feat. It takes a burning desire to get results for your clients and a great deal of commitment. You can read a little bit about her journey below. She is highly skilled at treating a range of myoskeletal problems, from back to carpal tunnel syndrome. After working as a teacher for two decades, I decided to return to my first passion, manual therapy, where I studied in my home country of the Netherlands. When I moved to Scotland in my early 20s, I studied Shiatsu and earned a degree from the Scottish School of Reflexology. After getting my massage license in Texas, I studied medical massage with T.C. Cameron and later became a teaching assistant. I have also been a TA for NKT Level 1 and 2. I have lived in several countries and learned that degrees and certificates do not guarantee respect. I have had to earn that by always learning more in different ways. It has been a life lesson in humility and never giving up.

While researching how to help one of my clients, I found a YouTube video of Erik, and that led me deeper into his work. I attended Erik’s Oklahoma City Workshop in 2018 and was very grateful to see the teamwork and warm welcome from so many excellent clinicians and learners. I immediately wanted to be part of the Dalton community, knowing I could make a difference in people’s lives.

I love how Erik has made difficult research papers accessible to anyone who wants to learn. I am grateful for the insights into pain patterns and the medical evidence showing how the mind and body are deeply connected through the nervous system. Erik’s MAT education sets high standards for manual therapists and opens the door for us to be integrated into the U.S. health system in a transparent way.

As a teacher at heart, I always enjoy sharing my knowledge and curiosity with my clients. Revisiting MAT has helped me feel more confident in explaining what I learn in simple, clear language. Learning MAT has helped me write more effective treatment plans and support clients through sessions with better results.

If you are interested in the MMT certification, set aside time to study, meet often with other therapists, attend the live workshops, and keep learning. Together, we can aim for the sky and truly CARE to help change health care.
