If you’re looking for massage therapy in Palm Beach, Joanna Carpenter is the massage therapist to see. We’re delighted that she decided to pursue certification as a Master Myoskeletal Therapist (MMT). Achieving this certification, one of the highest standards for a massage professional, is not easy. It takes a burning desire to get results for your clients and a great deal of commitment. Below is her story in her own words. This talented therapist can help you with all kinds of musculoskeletal conditions, including headaches, rotator cuff problems, sports injuries, and more. Second appointments are always a pleasure: “I feel so much better”, “my pain has gone”, “no one has EVER worked on me like that before”. These are familiar refrains in my treatment room since I started incorporating Erik Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques and philosophy into my listening-based bodywork.
I came to massage therapy after a career in analysis and consulting that took me all over the world; while decompressing from corporate life I moved to Belize in Central America and seeking to get healthier, opened a small gym. I gained an American Council on Exercise personal trainer certification and a national Association of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Qualification. My next step, after moving to Florida, was to gain my Massage Therapy License in 2019, after studying at Palm Beach State College. Boca Raton. I wanted to specialize in a style of manual therapy that was theoretical enough to have a strong foundation in the science of anatomy and physiology, but also practical enough to provide techniques that I could use to alleviate pain and significantly improve the quality of life for my clients.
The search naturally brought me to Erik’s bodywork system! I began to incorporate techniques from Erik’s Myoskeletal Spa Massage training into sessions with my spa clients. The result was a runaway success: my rebooking rate went through the roof and I was promoted to Lead Therapist. As a Master Myoskeletal Therapist (MMT), I still regularly deploy Erik’s techniques to great effect in a spa, but that early success also gave me the confidence to branch out into doing therapy in a clinical setting. I love how MAT is sufficiently versatile to be highly effective in both environments, while also sparing the wear and tear on my body. I now successfully practice orthopedic manual therapy grounded in MAT theory and techniques in Palm Beach, Florida and my native Suffolk, England. I derive huge satisfaction from seeing how MAT helps people heal and thrive, not least me!
