I hold a Bachelor’s in Physical Education with a focus on Sports Injury Management and a Master’s in Health Education with an emphasis on Exercise Physiology, both from the University of South Alabama. For about 9 years, I worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer, on the field and in clinical settings, until life took a turn. After becoming a widowed, single mom with two young kids, I needed a less demanding career, so I shifted gears and became a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in 2010, earning my license in 2012. I loved working as a PTA, even teaching part-time in the program I graduated from.
Over time, though, I became frustrated with the limitations of physical therapy. Many of my patients needed more hands-on techniques, but I couldn’t offer that within the scope of PT. So, I decided to go back to school again, this time to become a licensed Massage Therapist, graduating in 2020. That’s when I truly rediscovered my passion for healthcare and knew I had found my calling.
My background in kinesiology, athletic training, and physical therapy has been invaluable in my massage therapy career. While taking a complex shoulder class with James Waslaski, I kept hearing about Erik Dalton and his work. I began exploring his videos and knew I had to learn more. After connecting with Tammy McCue, one of Dalton’s instructors, I dived into Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT), and my practice was transformed.
I invested in the entire MAT library and took my first MAT class in March 2023. It completely changed how I approach bodywork—helping me work smarter, not harder. I now understand how to achieve better results without exhausting myself or my clients. In 2023, I attended a workshop in Oklahoma City, where I met Erik Dalton and was trained by him directly. I also took my final hands-on workshop with Tammy McCue to complete my MAT certification.
After just 3½ years as a massage therapist, I’m constantly learning and evolving. MAT has helped me refine my technique and improve my ability to read the body. My clients—many of whom refer friends and family—are seeing better results, and even former PTA students send their patients to me for more in-depth bodywork. I wish I had found MAT earlier, but I’m so grateful for the knowledge it’s given me. It’s made me a better therapist, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing in my practice. If you’re interested, I highly recommend checking out Erik Dalton’s free videos on Facebook and YouTube and signing up for his Technique Tuesday sessions to get a feel for his approach.
