Since becoming a massage therapist in 2009, I have worked in a variety of settings, ranging from luxury spas and corporate environments to pain management clinics and private practice. I am an avid learner, and my fascination with the human body and mind, as well as the therapeutic possibilities of bodywork and movement therapy, is limitless. From my early days as a massage therapist, I have been intrigued by Erik Dalton’s work.

In 2016, I attended my first MAT workshop, taught by Paul Kelly, with Erik Dalton as a special guest. It was a profound experience, and I knew then that I would continue studying this amazing modality. As life led me through many different chapters, I kept returning to MAT. Over the years, I completed the coursework and incorporated more and more techniques into my practice. With great joy, I received my MMT certification at the 2023 Oklahoma workshop, taught by Erik Dalton himself—an experience I will never forget.

MAT techniques are powerful, offering profound therapeutic outcomes. They are based on the latest research in pain management and nervous system regulation. A significant emphasis is placed on joint alignment and function, which play a crucial role in pain management. MAT blends myofascial work with elements of manual osteopathy and integrates them into rhythmically flowing routines. Not only do clients experience pain relief during and after a MAT session, but the treatment itself is profoundly soothing and relaxing due to its rhythmic nature. MAT techniques are easily integrated with other massage and bodywork modalities. My clients love how fluid and lubricated their joints feel after receiving MAT work and how chronic pain fades away with each session.

I highly recommend pursuing MAT education to any massage therapist interested in therapeutic bodywork and pain management. Whether through a workshop or an online course, the knowledge and techniques you will learn will immeasurably enhance your massage and bodywork practice. Finally, the MAT community is the best I have encountered in my 14 years as a massage therapist. The workshops are impeccably organized, and the entire team of hosts and TAs exudes warmth, welcoming every participant with joy and open arms. Erik Dalton is a true champion of teaching. He reads the energy of the room remarkably well, adjusting the pace perfectly to allow for both dynamic, refreshed brains and focused learning. Erik skillfully facilitates joyful, relaxed, and rewarding learning experiences that are unmatched and feel like a big celebration. Thank you, Erik, for enriching the massage therapy industry and profoundly impacting each of your students.

Much gratitude,

Daniela Wiesenaecker
