I began my career as a therapeutic massage therapist with a strong interest in working with the body as an integrated system. From early on, I was drawn to approaches that look beyond isolated symptoms and instead consider how the entire body contributes to pain, posture, and movement. Today, I bring that global perspective into my work by combining therapeutic massage with training as a personal trainer and corrective exercise specialist through the American Council on Exercise. This background allows me to integrate bodywork, movement training, and corrective exercise into a hybrid approach that helps clients restore function and move more comfortably in their daily lives.
My introduction to Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques came from a desire to improve the way I addressed neck and back problems in my practice. Like many therapists, I was constantly searching for better ways to help clients experiencing chronic tension, postural strain, and persistent pain patterns. During that search I discovered Erik Dalton’s work. I began watching videos and studying his techniques, and it quickly became clear that MAT offered a deeper and more systematic way of approaching these issues. After exploring the material further, I decided to attend a workshop, and from that point forward I knew I wanted to pursue the Master Myoskeletal Therapist certification.
What I appreciate most about MAT is the clear physiological response the techniques create. When applied properly, the body responds in ways that are both visible and measurable. Clients often experience immediate changes in range of motion, postural balance, and comfort. Even more rewarding is seeing the lasting results that come from these techniques. Rather than offering only temporary relief, MAT helps restore balance in the body so clients can move and function with greater ease.
Integrating MAT into my practice has had a powerful impact on the way my clients respond to treatment. Clients are very receptive to the work, particularly because they can often feel tangible improvements during the session itself. As those changes continue between visits, clients gain confidence that they are moving in the right direction toward becoming pain free and improving their overall quality of movement.
For therapists considering MAT education or pursuing the Master Myoskeletal Therapist certification, my advice is simple: if you are looking for a system of bodywork that produces lasting benefits, MAT provides an exceptional educational journey. The program offers a wide range of practical tools that can elevate your clinical thinking and expand the results you are able to achieve with your clients. It is a path that not only strengthens your skills as a therapist, but also deepens your understanding of how the body truly works.
