Business Policies

The following policies address issues of workshop cancellation, ADA statement, grievances, conflict of interest, non-discrimination, and accessibility with regard to the Freedom From Pain Institute website, workshops, and courses. Updated 2024.

Workshop Cancellation Policy

In the event you need to cancel your registration for a Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques® (MAT) workshop, Freedom From Pain Institute LLC (d.b.a. erikdalton.com) will allow you to apply your registration fee to another MAT workshop with the same educator within one year of the original training start date. If you cancel within 30 days prior to the workshop start date, a $50 admin fee will apply. There are no refunds. The price of the workshop is subject to change. (for a list of MAT Workshops, see: https://erikdalton.com/workshops/)

For cancellation policies relating to the Costa Rica Workshop:

  • A 50% deposit (of which $575 is non-refundable) is due upon reservation.
  • Balance is due on or before the registration deadline date, as indicated on the workshop page.
  • Registration fee depends on the type of accommodations you book.

Exceptions to workshop cancellation policies may be requested in the case of a serious or contagious illness or an unforeseen genuine emergency. Include the reason for requesting a policy exemption, and if relevant, please include documentation, e.g., official test results or a verification letter from a physician. Allow up to 2 weeks for a decision. If we can accommodate your exception request, an administrative fee may still apply.

We accept the return of any Home Study MAT USB Course, Home Study MAT DVD Course, DVD, or poster product within six months of the date of purchase and only if the original packaging is intact and has not been opened. The poster must be returned in its original shipping tube. You may receive a refund for an eLearning Course if you have not started the course within six months of the date of purchase. We do not accept the return of textbooks.

ADA Accommodation Policy

Freedom From Pain Institute LLC (FFPI) is committed to providing students with disabilities equal access and participation in educational offerings consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). According to the ADA, a disability is any physical, learning, medical, emotional, or mental health condition that limits a “major life activity,” such as walking, hearing, seeing, speaking, breathing, or learning. Disabilities can be visible or non-visible.

FFPI will offer accommodations in the form of reasonable modifications or services that give a student with a disability an equal opportunity to benefit from the educational process.

Accommodations can be in the form of academic adjustment or modifications such as extended time for test taking or completing course work; modification of test taking or performance evaluations so as not to discriminate against a person’s sensory, speaking, or motor impairments, unless that is what is being tested. Accommodations can also take the shape of large print or electronic formats of print materials. The Freedom From Pain Institute does not provide accommodations that would “fundamentally alter” the educational program or academic requirements that are essential to a program of study or to fulfill licensing requirements. A “fundamental alteration” is a modification that is so significant that it alters the essential nature of the education offered.

Grievance Policy

Freedom From Pain Institute LLC defines a legitimate grievance as a substantive circumstance that a student regards as a just cause for complaint. A grievance can be relevant to any incident involving an in-class workshop instructor or employee of Freedom From Pain Institute LLC. A grievance is a claim that an academic action or decision involved alleged unfair or irresponsible behavior. Because evaluating a student’s work performance involves the instructors’ professional judgment and is an integral part of the instructors’ teaching responsibilities, disagreement with an instructor about a grade or evaluation is not a justifiable grievance. Under this policy, a just cause for complaint must include other legitimate grievances, such as arithmetic errors or bias, that the student believes affected the grade or the evaluation.

Freedom From Pain Institute LLC encourages students to make every effort to resolve their problems and concerns directly and informally with the instructor or other involved parties. The student must request, in an email, a meeting with the party(ies) involved within 30 business days (class days do not include official holidays) of the point of time when the grievant has knowledge or should have had knowledge of the problem being grieved. The meeting should take place within 10 business days from the reception of the student’s email. If appropriate or necessary, the Director of Education shall participate in the informal effort to resolve the grievance. In some cases, the student may wish to discuss the problem initially with the Director of Education; however, contacting the Director of Education does not serve as a substitute for meeting with the party(ies) involved within 30 business days. If appropriate, the Director of Education will initiate an informal discussion among the involved parties to attempt a resolution at the informal stage.

The student may also initiate the grievance procedure by submitting a Grievance Form to Freedom From Pain Institute LLC.
