Technique Tuesday Spotlight
MAT OA Chin Tuck: The OA Chin Tuck is a simple but powerful MAT technique for restoring motion at the atlanto-occipital joint and relieving suboccipital tension. Standing at the head of the table, cradle the client’s head with one hand and brace the forehead with the other. Ask the client to gently tuck their chin toward their chest. Keeping your elbows extended and hands fixed, step to the side and apply a gentle two-second overpressure to encourage the occipital condyles to glide posteriorly and stretch the suboccipitals. Repeat 3–4 times on each side. This technique is featured in this week’s featured article, The Epic Suboccipitals, and comes from Erik Dalton’s Dynamic Upper Body Course, where you’ll learn a complete cervical routine for addressing forward head posture, headaches, and neck pain. Blog Post: The Epic Suboccipitals
Headaches, dizziness, neck pain, and compensation often trace back to the small but powerful suboccipital muscles. These tiny muscles help us nod “yes” to life, keep our gaze level with the horizon, and look up at the stars. Yet when the suboccipitals are strained, they can create widespread dysfunction. In this week’s featured article, Erik explores how the upper cervical region affects posture, proprioception, and dural tension, while sharing eight favorite MAT techniques to restore mobility and lasting relief.
