Technique Tuesday Spotlight

MAT OA Chin Tuck: The OA Chin Tuck is a simple but powerful MAT technique for restoring motion at the atlanto-occipital joint and relieving suboccipital tension. Standing at the head of the table, cradle the client’s head with one hand and brace the forehead with the other. Ask the client to gently tuck their chin toward their chest. Keeping your elbows extended and hands fixed, step to the side and apply a gentle two-second overpressure to encourage the occipital condyles to glide posteriorly and stretch the suboccipitals. Repeat 3–4 times on each side. This technique is featured in this week’s featured article, The Epic Suboccipitals, and comes from Erik Dalton’s Dynamic Upper Body Course, where you’ll learn a complete cervical routine for addressing forward head posture, headaches, and neck pain. Don’t miss this chance to take 25% off the list price.

Blog Post: The Epic Suboccipitals

Headaches, dizziness, neck pain, and compensation often trace back to the small but powerful suboccipital muscles. These tiny muscles help us nod “yes” to life, keep our gaze level with the horizon, and look up at the stars. Yet when the suboccipitals are strained, they can create widespread dysfunction. In this week’s featured article, Erik explores how the upper cervical region affects posture, proprioception, and dural tension, while sharing eight favorite MAT techniques to restore mobility and lasting relief.

Upper body pain often stems from postural stress, sensory motor amnesia, and reflexogenic patterns that go unrecognized. In this MAT course, you’ll learn to perform a concise intake assessment, pinpoint the true source of dysfunction, and apply targeted techniques that restore balance. From migraines and whiplash to thoracic outlet symptoms and scoliosis, you’ll gain practical tools you can use immediately. The result is greater confidence, clearer treatment protocols, and improved client outcomes.

"So far, I have only scratched the surface of this program. However, my clients already feel a difference with longer lasting relief. I’m not working as hard, and I’m able to get more done in a short time with these techniques. Even if you only take these courses for the information, it will transform your critical thinking and how you treat clients. I can’t wait to get my MMT certification!"

"I greatly enjoyed Advanced Myoskeletal Techniques for the upper body. All the videos were well thought out and executed. The handsome book that accompanies is worth its weight in gold. Personally, I preferred the book to the elearning course, but how nice to have options!! I would (and will!) recommend this to anyone who wants to further their bodywork careers."
