Erik Dalton has partnered with Indiana State University to create the only minor degree in massage therapy program offered by a major United States university. To provide assistance to students and encourage other universities to follow suit, Erik Dalton has established a scholarship fund. Here are the recipients of the 2019 scholarships.

Morgan Wright & Reagan Walther

Morgan Wright

“I am very thankful to be one of the first students to receive the Erik Dalton Myoskeletal Massage Therapy Scholarship. As a senior at Indiana State University studying athletic training with a concentration in applied medicine and rehabilitation, this scholarship has inspired me to work even harder to reach my full potential as a massage therapist. The program at Indiana State has helped me learn more about the human body than I ever imagined, and it has changed my life in the most positive way.

“I am from the small town of Union Mills, Indiana. One of my goals is to introduce massage therapy to the people in my community in order to improve their lives. When I first started the massage therapy program, I asked my dad if I could practice some of the techniques I had learned on him, and he was willing to let me. He did not believe me when I told him I could help with his hip pain. To this day, he cannot stop telling people how I “fixed” his hip problem.

“Once I started seeing the results of my work, I gained a lot of confidence and grew eager to learn more. By working with other students in the class, I have learned new ways to perform certain techniques — and how to perform them correctly. The open clinic we hold at the Indiana State Student Recreation Center has been very helpful as well, challenging my thinking and allowing me to see different body types.

“Charlie Peebles is a great mentor, and I am extremely thankful he can teach me what Erik Dalton taught him. Whatever questions I ask, he always has answers for me. I am truly grateful for the support provided by the Erik Dalton Myoskeletal Massage Therapy Scholarship — it has allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming a massage therapist.”

Reagan Walther

“I am the proud recipient of the Erik Dalton Myoskeletal Massage Therapy Scholarship for the upcoming academic year. As a senior studying athletic training, this scholarship will allow me to take advantage of the academic and involvement opportunities available at Indiana State University. I am from a small town in Indiana, called Fair Oaks, where such opportunities are rare. This scholarship and the many benefits of the massage therapy program are truly uplifting. “Currently, I am part of the honors college and plan to graduate in May. I look forward to using massage therapy techniques in my future career as an athletic trainer. I believe these techniques can be very valuable for everyone — especially athletes. Such skills will not only help me excel as an athletic trainer but also stand out from other graduate school applicants. “In addition to learning effective techniques, being part of this massage therapy program also means making connections and getting prepared to enter nearly any health-care related career field. The knowledge I have gained from this program will be beyond beneficial, and I am extremely excited to put all these techniques and trainings to the best possible use. “The Erik Dalton Myoskeletal Massage Therapy Scholarship has allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming an athletic trainer, and I cannot wait to help promote massage therapy in my athletic training career. Thank you for supporting my education — it is truly moving to see my hard work pay off.”

Help support the students in this unique program!

To elevate the status and continued growth of the Indiana State University program, the Freedom From Pain Institute is in the process of financing an ongoing continuing education scholarship grant to help fund qualified and passionate students of physical medicine. Help us elevate the profession and encourage other universities to follow suit. Consider donating to the scholarship fund and help massage students in need. Donations of any amount, even as little as $10, helps the cause.
