During their time in school, many up and coming touch therapists may not be clear on whether they would like to focus on a more specific modality, such as one that incorporates deep tissue techniques, or practice more general bodywork. With time, such choices tend to fall into place, sometimes upon graduation and other times after the practitioner has been working professionally for a while.

Two factors that may drive the decision to transition from general bodywork into a more specific mode of practice are the desire for increased income and also for improved client outcomes. With these two motivating forces at work, touch therapists may find themselves searching for massage courses that can give them the skills they need to enter the world of manual therapy for pain management.

Massage courses delivered through Erik Dalton workshops, whether attended on site and in person or taken through home study CE programs, provide a powerful route to that more specialized career. In fact, these massage courses allow participants to earn the title of Certified Myoskeletal Therapist, which conveys that the practitioner has had solid training in myoskeletal alignment techniques.

The massage courses created by Erik Dalton are offered in one of two basic ways: either at an in-person workshop or through home study. The in-person massage courses usually take place only twice a year—once in Oklahoma and once in Costa Rica. Attendance at one of these seminars is a fantastic step toward greater career success and improved client outcomes, as students get a chance to learn all kinds of advanced myoskeletal skills.

However, given the fact that these CEU workshops tend to fill up fast, prospective students are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible in order to reserve a spot. In fact, it is the enormous popularity of Dalton’s myoskeletal alignment modality, along with his reputation as both a fun and effective educator, that have led to the creation of massage courses that can be taken at home.

These home study programs feature high quality massage therapy videos and classic textbooks authored by Dalton, including Dynamic Body, which also contains contributions from a long list of his colleagues. Currently, there are three different home study massage courses that have been developed and produced by Erik Dalton and his Freedom From Pain Institute: Lower Body Specialist, Upper Body Specialist and Posture & Pain Specialist.

With workbooks, DVDs, textbooks and more, each of these programs is packed with the information a bodyworker needs to begin climbing the ladder toward a niche in manual therapy for pain management. Whether you choose to attend an Erik Dalton workshop in person or sign up for one of his home study CE courses, you can rest assured that you are moving in the right direction for your career and your clients.

Erik Dalton’s Freedom From Pain Institute has been approved by both the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and also the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC) as a provider of continuing education.
